Parents’ FAQs

Kids boxing questions

What age can my child start boxing in Plymouth?

At Intense Boxing children can start from age 6 in our 6–9 Year Olds class (Tuesday and Thursday, 5–6pm).

Is boxing safe for children?

Our kids’ classes focus on technique, fitness, footwork and pad and bag work. Beginners do not spar. Any sparring later on is coach-supervised, with protective equipment, and matched by age, weight and experience [confirm: sparring policy]. Coaches are England Boxing qualified and the club follows England Boxing safeguarding policies.

Will boxing make my child aggressive?

Parents usually see the opposite. Boxing training builds discipline, respect, self-control and confidence, and gives kids a positive place to burn off energy after school.

How much are kids’ boxing classes?

£5 per session, pay as you go, with no monthly fees. The first session is free. The Advanced Kids competitive squad trains for free.

How does my child get into competitive boxing?

When coaches feel a young boxer is ready and they want to compete, they move into the Advanced Kids squad (Mon/Wed/Fri 7–8.30pm, free). Competitive boxers register with England Boxing and box in carded amateur bouts and championships. That is the same pathway that leads to GB squads and the Olympics. Registration and medical requirements [confirm: details/costs].

Can I stay and watch?

Parents may stay inside for the first 1–2 sessions so a child settles. Staying longer requires a full England Boxing DBS check. All coaches are fully DBS checked, and a child welfare officer attends sessions.
